First Significant Snowfall!

This is our 6 1/2 month old's first peek at any significant snow. Pookie is observing the 1/4"-1/3" of snow we had overnight. He will not be out playing in it, as he's an indoor kitty like our other felines. But I may surprise him with a bowl full of snow so he can experience it! --LKR

Heat Wave!!!

Here in the upper midwest, we're experiencing extreme heat. While 92F may not sound scorching to anyone living in dryer climates, when high temps are combined with high humidity, the heat index can easily rise up and over 100F. This could lead to heat related illnesses such as heat stroke in both humans and animals.

Stay in air conditioned buildings, drink plenty of fluids, and if you must be outside, wear a hat and stay in the shade.

Check up on elderly neighbors, and families with young children. A day like this is not good for gardening or running around outside!

Outdoor dogs (and cats!) should have plenty of shade and water to access throughout the day.

For wild animals, consider leaving shallow dishes of water in shady areas, or hanging an extra hummingbird feeder out for hot, hungry hummers.

Moscow Cats Theater

Some cats are just cut out for this! They use each individual cat's abilities just like they do when "training" dolphins for shows. Enjoy!

A New Feline in the Family!

Hi! It's me, Mister Poochie!

I have some really exciting news, I do, I do! I have a new little brother! And he likes me, he does! He really does!

Isn't he cute? His name is Toby. My sibling Elizabeth named him, she did.

Toby was born on a friend's alpaca farm. He was used to having big friendly noses sniff sniff sniffing him in the face, Mom said. So my smaller muzzle doesn't scare him, yeay!

Toby shares a room with Elizabeth and keeps her up at night, just like any baby would, Mom says. Alpha says it's pay back time, he does, whatever that means.

My oldest sister Rocky Kitty Kitty doesn't mind this little white tornado. She doesn't mind, that is, until Toby gets too close too fast. Then she hiss hiss hisses for him to back off, she does. Then everything is fine in her purrfect little world.

My siblings William and Hannah love playing with and spoiling Toby, too. And everyone just loves it when he falls asleep in their arms. Alpha likes to have his time with Toby, as well, and calls him his cat. --Mister Poochie

Empty Nest Syndrome

Isn't he sweet? Hannah found him hiding in tall grass by a small lilac bush in our yard. Elizabeth was still out mowing the lawn, so hopefully she didn't accidentally hurt any of its siblings!
We watched as the mother bird called this and another sibling to the safety of a nearby bush and hop up a few branches from the ground. I only hope it was high enough to keep them safe!
Hannah ran to notify one neighbor who has a sweet, huggable hunting cat about the babies. Later, another neighbor's adorable mini dachshund was found wandering around in our yard close to where the babies were hiding. Harley loves to eat baby birds and bird eggs! NOAA Weather Radio had also issued severe thunderstorm warnings for our area, this evening. To make matters worse, we also have a lot of hungry crows that frequent our yard. It's hazardous living in a sin-cursed world! --LKR
